About this deal

We all know the range and breadth of Alexander’s writing, not all of it comic but much of it SO comic it keeps us afloat through dark times.

For example, Mma Ramotswe takes her employee, part-time detective Charlie, to the dentist; Mma Makutsi goes to the supermarket with her husband Phuti; Mma Ramotswe and Mma Makutsi visit their friend Mma Potokwane at the orphan farm; and more. If there was reproach in Mma Ramotswe’s voice, it was mild; so mild, in fact, that it seemed to go unnoticed. However, her son is disrupting her newfound happiness with constant angry outbursts and meanness directed towards her new partner. I don’t think that will be necessary,” she said, then after the shortest of pauses added, “Thank you, anyway. As usual, common sense driven Mma Ramotswe gets to the bottom of it, while also assisting a friend of Grace’s to solve a problem in her personal life.Charlie comes into his own as he matures, Mma Makutsi acknowledges that Mma Ramotswe is the boss, and Mma Potokwane is a star as an advertising model. Grace can grate on the nerves with her attempts to appear to be in charge, but Precious has more patience than I ever would with the whole Grace situation!

Mma Ramotswe comes up with ideas that might solve both issues and provide a happy solution for all of them. Most people longed for the day when they might tune into a news broadcast and hear the announcer say, 'I'm sorry, everybody, but nothing has happened. I Ladies Detective Agency books and I thoroughly enjoyed the series on HBO several years ago which was a compilation of several books. There would be time for several tea breaks, of course, and in this way they could expect to spend a pleasant and not unduly stressful day in the office. The pace of the reading was fairly slow, so even ramping up the play speed meant that it was still pretty clear and understandable.I recommend it to all cozy mystery lovers looking for a book with great characters, an entertaining mystery, and an underlying sense of kindness. This is another cheering tale where human nature wanders off on the wrong tack to cause problems that are resolved, leaving the reader feeling comforted and reassured that the world is just and pleasant. I know when I pick up a book in this series I will be in for hours of humour and wisdom and have a gentle mystery or two to puzzle out. They could be in the 1960’s, and suddenly you read something that jolts you into Botswana in the 2020s! Mma Ramotswe has a couple of tricky problems to deal with; Mma Makutsi is concerned about a rival chair company who are undercutting her husband's business, and using arch rival Violet Sepotho in their advertising campaign; meanwhile, one of her old friends is having trouble with her son and the new man in her life.
